The Effect of Mineralized Plasmatic Matrix and Chitosan on the Healing of Critical-Sized Mandibular Bone Defects in a Rabbit Model

Background: In maxillofacial surgery, critical size mandibular defects remain a challenging issue. There have been numerous attempts to improve defect healing. Recently, bone tissue engineering has provided many benefits in improving Herein, we tried investigate the effect of Mineralized plasmatic matrix (MPM) and Chitosan enhance healing regeneration defect. Methods: A was created 45 New Zealand rabbits. were three groups rabbits: MPM group, control group. Radiographical, histological, immune histochemical evaluations performed at 4, 8, 12 post-operative weeks. Results: The group demonstrated highest degree formation with uniform radio-opacity nearly like that adjacent healthy parent tissue. While chitosan most area filled radio-opaque persistent small radiolucent areas. showed less than more Sections stained (H&E) an increase osseous both groups. Staining Masson’s trichrome revealed fibrous connective proliferation groups, nuclear factor kappa p65 downregulated, metalloproteinase-9 upregulated. Conclusion: According current study, may beneficial effects on critical-sized defects.
